She first heard of Pilates while in physical therapy, At first, she was too intimated to try it out. However, after spending years going to the gym, she knew she needed something different. Julie eventually took her first Pilates class and immediately fell in love. While working at a job that made her unhappy she soon realized that Pilates made her feel as though had a euphoric state of mind. Julie says, “Leaving every class made me feel like I could handle anything in my path.” This is where she understood that, “physical fitness is the first requisite to happiness”- Joseph Pilates. Julie has been Pilates certificated since 2013 and is continuing her journey to helping other people discover their passion. She started her position as Lead Trainer in 2015 with the help of her TRX, CPR, and Above Barre certifications. Julie is also certified by the PMA. • Esmeralda Barrera

    Pilates Instructor

After one too many ballet related injuries and moving to San Diego from Baja California, Mexico where she was born and raised, Esmeralda searched for a safe and effective way to exercise and discovered Pilates at the young age of 14. She was instantly enamored with the mind + body connection and after almost a year of pilates practice she enrolled in a teacher training program and began teaching in the summer of 2012. She has been passionately teaching ever since. She says: “I was very fortunate to discover pilates while my body was still growing, Pilates taught me body awareness that helped me become aware of my misalignments, poor posture and dysfunctional movements that could have lead to injuries and health problems later in life. I’m very passionate about teaching others everything Pilates has to offer, It’s more than just a workout! I love seeing how much stronger and flexible people become with pilates, my favorite part of teaching is working with people and witnessing how Pilates improves the way they move their bodies and knowing they feel good after a session”. She is also a mat Pilates instructor, a certified 200hr Yoga teacher, a Kinesiology major, and is currently working towards becoming a Master Trainer. When she’s not in a studio teaching, you can catch her camping, hiking, listening to EDM, fishing, continuing her education, eating Mexican food and binge watching animated series online.

  • Tracy Ford

    Pilates Instructor

Tracy is a San Diego native that started her Pilates passion over 5 years ago. It all started from a Groupon. The minute she took the class she loved what it did to her back. As a person with Scoliosis, she realized her back was slowly getting more movement & getting stronger on her weaker side. The idea of moving the spine in four different directions has really helped keep Tracy out of back issues. Her favorite Joseph Pilates quote is "A man is as young as his spinal column". She wants to always incorportate unilateral exercises in her classes to even clients out on their body. As of fall 2016, Tracy has finished her teacher training at Club Pilates and is excited to join Katie and her amazing instructors on being the best & helpful instructor in San Diego. In her free time, she loves to spend it with friends & family, hiking around town, run & get back into doing half marathons.

  • Lauren Terrell

    Pilates Instructor

Lauren was born and raised in Sacramento, California. After graduating from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo with a Bachelor’s Degree in Theatre, she landed in sunny San Diego, where her boyfriend (and soon to be husband) grew up. After earning her teaching credential, Lauren taught middle school English for 10 years. She is the mother of three rambunctious daughters that keep her on her toes daily. The second pregnancy for Lauren proved to be challenging. She suffered extremely uncomfortable and often debilitating back pain. After her mother introduced her to Pilates, she fell in love. It was the ability to continue her practice throughout her third pregnancy that truly sold her on the power of Pilates! The exercises, paired with the proper pregnancy modifications, eliminated her back pain, ultimately allowing her to chase her two toddlers more easily. It was then that she decided to venture on a new path, eager to pursue her newfound passion by becoming an instructor. She jumped into the Club Pilates 500 comprehensive certification a mere two months after her third baby was born. For Lauren, Pilates creates a overall wellness connecting her mind, body, and soul. She is anxious to promote the same feeling in her clients and help them achieve their overall fitness and wellness goals. Outside of the studio, she enjoys reading, writing, painting, cooking, stockpiling sleep when possible, and binge-watching the latest Netflix show after her kids go to bed (while sipping on an adult beverage of course).

  • Jennica Smith

    Pilates Instructor

I was born and raised in San Diego and have always lived an active lifestyle. I grew up doing competitive gymnastics and dance and it eventually led me to Cal State Fullerton. While attending CSUF I participated on the national award winning dance team and that is something that helped me solidify my decision to major in kinesiology. I worked at a Physical Therapy clinic throughout college and eventually became an exercise specialist. I stayed in that field for ten plus years and gained a plethora of knowledge about the body. Once I moved back to San Diego is when I really got into Pilates. I loved the mental and physical challenge it provides and the positive daily habits it gives me. No matter what the persons age, their constraints or physical nature I love to teach and give everyone a chance to move their body. While I was pregnant I stayed consistent with Pilates 2-4 times a week and I saw the benefits it provided. It kept me moving and I truly believe it helped my body prepare for labor and delivery as well as postpartum. I can’t say enough good things about Pilates and pregnancy after going through it myself. When I am not teaching Pilates, I am usually running around after my two year old daughter, Ainsley and our yellow lab Django. My husband and I love traveling and can’t wait to plan our next big trip.

  • Rhonda Kirwan

    Pilates Instructor

Rhonda LOVES Pilates! She’s a wife, a mom, a cross country coach and now a Pilates instructor and loves every minute of it. Her approach to her classes is from a coaching perspective. She motivates, inspires and challenges the bodies in the room to give more than the little voices inside their heads allow them to. She knows, from experience, that many times a simple workout becomes difficult because we tell ourselves that it is. Yet, when we quiet those voices and allow our bodies to do what they can do, we amaze ourselves by our strength, our resilience, and our God-given talents. She encourages everyone to step outside their comfort zone and experience life with anticipation and great expectations! Rhonda looks forward to seeing you in her next class. :)
